  • Description: I. 'YOUNG SEA DOGS OF PORT OF LONDON. Rear Admiral Halsey C.B. Third Sea Lord inspects Sea Scouts and Roll of Honour of the Lads' fathers and brothers at Limehouse.' Rear-Admiral Halsey inspects a troop of Sea Scouts. He is accompanied by Alderman J D Riley MP, who points out a boy standing in the ranks wearing ordinary scout's uniform - Halsey chats to the lad. MCU of Halsey talking with a full-blown Sea Scout. Band leads two detachments of Sea Scouts along street - locals watch and follow along after the boys have passed. MS of Halsey looking at a printed Roll of Honour which has been framed and put up, surrounded with floral tributes, outside one of the houses.II. 'IN BRAVE ROUMANIA. General Berthelot of the French Military Mission presenting medals and crosses to Roumanian heroes.' MS of line of Rumanian soldiers - General Berthelot steps into frame form left and decorates one man, followed by the ritual kiss. LS of Berthelot watching march past of Rumanian troops. MS pan along rank of newly-decorated soldiers, and MCU of two of the men - the medals are the Rumanian Medal of Military Merit, Medal Militaire (?) and Croix de Guerre. MS of Rumanian Mannlichers with fixed bayonets stacked so as to support the staff of a regimental colour which hangs down between the rifles.III. '"Cannucks" in Training. Canadians rehearsing "Somewhere in England", the form of attack they will soon be launching "Somewhere in France".' LS over tussocky grassland to extended line of troops walking away from camera towards 'shell bursts' in the distance. LS of pyrotechnic 'shell burst'. Men in the trenches fire rifles, Lewis guns, throw grenades. A line of men advance with fixed bayonets - they are beset with explosions (sufficient in reality to decimate them) and go to ground.IV. 'WITH THE KING IN FRANCE. His Majesty was greatly interested in a remarkable demonstration at a Gas School. It entirely resembles the real thing.' HM, with the Prince of Wales in attendance, chats with officers. LS of a series of air bursts, simulating gas shells - HM looks on from a respectful distance. LS of 'gas cloud' billowing up over the ground, and pan to HM talking with officers of the school.'EGYPTIANS DO THEIR "BIT". An Egyptian Labour Contingent stacking hay at a base in France. In spare moments they break into a quaint dance.' Egyptians stand clapping rhythmically while others dance - warehouses and cranes in the background. Watched by British soldiers, the men move boxes of Libby's tinned food products. LS as bales of hay are carried to a wooden platform where they are stacked ready to be covered with protective canvas.
